Cancer Council community relations co-ordinator Clint Ekert said that and emergency management plan had to be enacted to make sure everyone left Cesnock Baddeley Park in one piece.
“I’ve never had to enact an emergency management plan before the weekend and I hope I never have to again,” Mr Ekert said.
Mr Ekert praised the efforts of the Relay For Life organising committee, St Johns Ambulance volunteers and the community who all made sure everyone left the site safely.
“It was like World War III down there with all the marquees blowing around, but everyone did such a great job in getting everyone into the stands safely,” he said.
Despite the terrible weather, rain could not dampen the parade with Mr Ekert saying that this year, Cessnock Relay For Life raised a formidable $77,000.
“All expectations were blown out of the water,” Mr Ekert said.
