A new award has been announced for 2019 -The Marie Callaghan Young Female Achiever Award. This award seeks to recognise the barriers women face in seeing public office.

Mayor Bob Pynsent said the Australia Day Awards were a great way for the community to shine a spotlight on some of our region’s most deserving residents.
“This is a chance to acknowledge those in our community who give up their own time and dedicate themselves to making our community a better place,” Cr Pynsent said. “This gives us an opportunity to say thanks and celebrate in their achievements.
“Last year, we had some magnificent people take to the stage to accept their award and they have all continued to contribute to our community over the last 12 months.”
Nominations must be submitted by Monday 10 December. Nomination forms and selection criteria can be found on Council’s website at www.cessnock.nsw.gov.au/community/events-ceremonies/australiaday.
The winners will be announced at a Civic Reception held on Australia Day. More details about the event will be released closer to the date.
