Cessnock mayor Bob Pynsent said the scholarships were council’s way of celebrating local young people and helping them to build a career.
“The scholarships are $2,500 and can be used at the recipient’s discretion to support their studied. Textbooks, travel or tools can be very costly – this can take some of the pressure off and allow a student to focus on their study,” he said.
The following scholarships will be available in 2019: Mining/Technical Engineering; Mining; Building and Associated Trades; the John Knipe Memorial Hospitality scholarship; Post-HSC; Undergraduate; Local Government; and the Merv Mahon Memorial Undergraduate scholarship.
