They are also about providing refreshing takes on the classic cover band standards that you are likely to hear on any given weekend.
At a Counterpart show, you might experience a jazzed-up version of a Doors tune or a sweet and lilting acoustic version of a Guns N’ Roses banger. There might even be a swing version of a Noiseworks number.
It’s a wide musical ground these guys cover, from the likes of Angus and Julia Stone and Bernard Fanning to Cee-Lo Green and Cyndi Lauper.
Good mates Andy and Simon, who make up the eclectic Counterpart, grew up together, learning music by jamming to their favourite songs in the garage until the wee small hours, much to the annoyance of neighbours.
Thankfully, that hard work paid off, Andy and Simon delivering an expertly played set with song choices that will have even the shyest of wallflowers up and dancing.
Catch Counterpart at Cessnock Leagues Club on Saturday 1 December.
