The  team of five boys and five girls won the skills-based competition at Newcastle Basketball Stadium during the Waratah Basketball League season earlier in the year.

Their prize was $5000 worth of sporting equipment thanks to Pivotal Business Systems and Rebel Sport.

The team, coached by deputy principal Jaclyn Zoneff and teacher Adam Melmeth, out-performed their rivals in four basketball skill drills: dribbling, passing, shooting and footwork.

The school spent its winnings on two new portable basketball backboards and hoops, new basketballs, footballs and netballs, a table-tennis table and other much-needed equipment.

“There are only four basic drills to master and  expert coaches at Newcastle Basketball will even deliver a free clinic to show the youngsters how to perfect this before their big night,” Newcastle Basketball general manager Neil Goffet said

“Schools only have to commit to one Saturday night. If they win on their first night then they are straight into the final, which is always held in conjunction with the last home game of the Newcastle Hunters’ season.”

“It’s a great result for the kids at Nulkaba Public, who will have excellent sporting equipment for years to come.”
