The students spent the past term collecting donations of non-perishable food and clothing to give to the Salvation Army in time for Christmas.
Stage one teacher Ally Robinson said the students collected so many items, they filled a whole car up.
“The kids loved it,” she said. “They were like a big production line loading the car.”
The students were involved in every stage of the process, from designing and handing out flyers to collecting donations and then handing them over to Cessnock Salvation Army Captain Darryn Lloyd.
“They really learnt about the gift of giving to people in need and how all those people will now have a better Christmas,” Ms Robinson said.
Ms Robinson said the students were also preparing to sing for the residents at Calvary, which she said would help teach them a different kind of giving.
