Throughout 2018, I’ve been working hard both here in our electorate and in Canberra to get the best for our community.
It’s been an eventful year in Australian politics, but my focus has been entirely on you - my constituents.
In Canberra, I’ve spoken over 75 times on a range of issues. I have advocated for a reliable NBN, a functioning NDIS, funding for the Mobile Phone Black Spot program and for the residents of Williamtown who have been affected by PFAS contamination.
In my electorate of Paterson, I’ve met thousands of you in our community through presentations, round tables, meetings, dinners, fundraisers, ‘Coffee with Meryl’ events and outand about. It’s been a pleasure to meet you and to get to know you all.
Ever since I was elected, I’ve been continuously striving to get the best for our electorate.
This includes connecting policy makers with constituents and local businesses to ensure their voices are heard.
Several Shadow Ministers have visited our electorate to understand how Labor policies would effect our region. This includes Richard Marles - Shadow Minister for Defence, Mark Butler - Shadow Minister for Climate Change and Energy, Anthony Albanese - Shadow Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Cities, Regional Development and Tourism, and Amanda Rishworth - Shadow Minister for Veteran’s Affairs, Defence Personnell, and Early Childhood Education and Development.
I’ve also been proud to help our communities thrive and grow through a range of federal grants programs. Including the stronger communities grants, which has funded over $300,000 in community based programs and projects to help build engagement in our region, Armistice Day grants, which funded over $40,000 to projects to commemorate 100 years since the guns fell silent on the Western Front and $2,500 for veteran and community grants.
It’s been an honour and a privilege to represent you in 2018.
Thank you for welcoming me into your businesses, your schools, your sporting and volunteering organisations, and your lives this year. I’m grateful I’ve been given that opportunity and I look forward to representing you in 2019.
Merry Christmas and have a happy new year.
