A special mention about the number of young people who volunteered their time to support their community.
Our community is fortunate to have people like Shane and Julie Herring who donated chicken for the lunch.
This is wonderful show of support by our business community.
Vale Nell Workman
It was very sad to attend the funeral of Nell Workman recently.
Nell, who had just turned 90 worked tirelessly for our community particularly with the Kurri Kurri Retired Mineworkers.
This is a very sad loss for the Cessnock Local Government Area.
Australia Day weekend celebrations
The Christmas and New Year celebrations have now wrapped up for many of us and we now prepare for Australia Day.
Council is looking forward to this year’s celebration that now includes three days of free family friendly activities.
Friday, January 25: A screening of The Castle will be on at CPAC from 6:30pm.
Australia Day: We will hold the Citizenship Ceremony, Australia Day Awards and Mayor’s Cup Twenty20 Cricket Match.
Sunday, January 27: A free barbecue breakfast will be held at Cessnock Pool from 9am until 11am with free entry to the pool.
What a fantastic few days we have planned to celebrate this great country we live in.
2019 Cessnock Seniors Festival
On Australia Day a new Senior Citizen will be announced for Cessnock, this will be just in time for our upcoming Seniors Festival.
There will be dozens of free events happening between Wednesday, February 13 and Tuesday, February 26.
The festival provides a unique opportunity to try out different community organisations, activities and meet like-minded people. It’s about making connections not just during the festival, but following the festivities.
Programs will shortly be available in hardcopy or can be downloaded now at www.cessnock.nsw.gov.au /seniorsfestival .
Cool off with the family
The Family Funday Sundays are now running allowing residents free entry between 10am until 6pm, to Cessnock Pool, Branxton Pool and Kurri Kurri Aquatic and Fitness Centre (KKAFC).
An inflatable fun park will be popping up a different locations throughout the period.
To find out when and where keep an eye on our website.
Please note extra fees and charges will apply for use of the inflatable fun park.
The Fundays run until February 24.
Reminder: Holiday time – slow down, kids around
Just a reminder that as it’s still school holiday time, council asks drivers to slow down and be vigilant during the holiday period and encourages adults to hold the hands of any children under their supervision.
Cessnock City Council is proud to be partnering with the Little Blue Dinosaur Foundation for the Holiday Time: Slow Down, Kids Around road safety campaign.
