Just four months after captaining Maitland’s grand final campaign in the Newcastle Hunter Rugby Union competition, Logan has this week announced he will return to his junior sport at the proud Newcastle Rugby League club.
The recently turned 30-year-old, who avoided off-season surgery on a foot ligament injury, said the change was more a matter of timing than anything else.
“It [rugby league] is still the game that I love,” the East Maitland-based, father-of-one said.
“I turned 30 last year and if I was ever going to go back and have a crack I think now is the time.
“It will be a good change and a good challenge. I’ll rip in and see what happens.”
Logan “grew up” playing league for North Coast side the Ballina Seagulls but has spent eight years in union circles, mainly with Maitland but also with Nelson Bay and Scottish outfit Curri.
“It was hard to leave Maitland but everyone there has been very supportive,” Logan said.
The Blacks left a message on social media.
“We’ve loved having you and hope to see you come back to Marcellin soon,” the Instagram post said.
He mainly played fullback in union and envisages a similar role back in league.
Kurri mentor Ron Griffiths said he was “looking forward to coaching him. He seems to have a good attitude and no real expectations. He just wants an opportunity to work hard and go back to the game he started out playing.”
The Bulldogs, who fell one game short of last year’s decider, start pre-season training on Thursday.
