On Saturday, Congewai’s Justin Beckett and Kurri Kurri’s Mitchell Kirk were crowned back to back champions in the NSW doubled handed saw championship at Maitland Show.
The pair stepped up to compete with other axemen from across the state, taking home the top prize with seconds to spare.
“Mitch and Justin won it by three or four seconds,” competition coordinator Steven Kirk said.
“They defended the title easily in about 12 and a half seconds.”
Chris Owen and Daniel Clissold took out second place, followed by Brendan and Blake Marsh in third, and Steven Kirk and David Ruemer in fourth.
Steven Kirk said the double handed sawing was a crowd favourite and expected to return as the pinnacle of next year’s show woodchopping events.
