Avery, who died on Sunday aged 76,  was part of  football for 43 years, earning life membership of the then Hunter District Junior Soccer Association in 1986.

In a statement the HVF said: "Phyllis will always be remembered for her welcoming manner, her smiling face and of course her cheekiness and her laugh.

"For 43 years, Phyllis dedicated her time to a game and a community she loved.

"Phyllis' involvement with Hunter Valley Football varied over her 40 years, from secretary, registrar and undertaking fixtures duties. Known for her attention to detail, Phyllis was a master of fixtures, her inscrutable eye ensured each competition season was run efficiently.

Whilst Phyllis will be missed for the great work she did, it will be the undeniable loyalty she provided to Hunter Valley Football and its clubs that will forever be remembered.

"A true ambassador to volunteers in clubs, Phyllis lead the way in establishing good governance, procedures and that consistent administration was adhered to through her strong relationships and ongoing training for clubs.

"Based on respect, these relationships with club volunteers created a reliable and friendly environment and resulted in all issues being resolved quickly and efficiently."

Her funeral service  will be held at St John's Anglican Church, Westcott Street, Cessnock on Friday at 2pm
