Works to repair the damaged hall started last month and are expected to be completed by early June.
It comes after a fast and furious storm tore through Kurri Kurri on November 6, 2017, leaving a path of destruction in its wake including severe damage to the Cessnock Council-owned hall.
A council spokesperson said damage to the roof was even greater than first anticipated, requiring some "engineered solutions and a number of different consultants and subsequent inspections".
There was also asbestos in the building that had to be removed, which also involved a number of consultants as well as air monitoring for a period of time. The asbestos issues have now been resolved.
The repairs involve demolition of the damaged areas of the building and replacement of the roof as well as internal works such as new carpentry, flooring, new linings, painting and electrical works. The roof framing is complete and some of the sheeting has been installed. Internal electrical works are also well underway.
Once the roof sheeting is completed the building will be protected from the elements and the internal works including carpentry, flooring and linings can start.
The repairs are being completed by Bay Building, who were contracted by Cessnock Council.
