The desk would provide residents with JP services on a regular basis in the same location.

Elaine Carter, who belongs to the Tuggerah Lakes Justices Association, said the organisation was looking for qualified and prospective JPs to help facilitate the desk and also currently scoping for locations to have it.

"We're looking to see who would be interested," she said.

Ms Carter said once people had registered their interest, a roster system would be set up.

She said there had been a lot of changes to the requirements of being a JP, and a desk could help JPs keep up to date and informed of the changes.

For example, from this month, paper applications for reappointment will no longer be accepted and all JP correspondence will be moving entirely online. All current JPs will also need to successfully complete a JP Knowledge Test before they can apply for reappointment.

Ms Carter also said there were less documents that JPs could sign off on now than there used to be.

"A lot of people aren't aware of these changes," Ms Carter said.

She said the people running the desk would receive training from the NSW Justices Association to help them get it off the ground.

Applications for JP appointments are closed until the middle of this month while the new online system is launched.
