The new town opened its first street library on Friday for residents to exchange books for free outside the Huntlee café.
The initiative was kick-started by resident Brett Laing, who received funding through the Huntlee Community Grants scheme.
Mr Laing and Huntlee community liaison officer, Walter Mansfield, commissioned the Greta-Branxton Men's Shed to construct the custom-made library.
Both said they hoped the library would help create a sense of community.
"I thought it would a be a good thing for the area with all the kids and the cafe," Mr Laing said.
There are currently 344 homes occupied in Huntlee with 77 more under construction.
Mr Mansfield said he hoped that as the community grew, another street library could be created.
