The big first day for Maitland netball under-7s has been delayed with rain forcing the cancellation of 9am games today.
The Maitland Netball Association posted at 7.30am that the 9am games were cancelled and at this stage all other competitions were going ahead as the weather was predicted to clear.
"We will post about the 10am games at 9am, to give us every opportunity to play round one," the statement said.
The Mercury will update readers as further news comes through.
In the meantime, it's a great opportunity to take a look back at last year's netball opening day fun.
The start of the Maitland netball competition has been brought forward this year to allow the season to be completed by the end of August and work from September on a $1.2 million rebuild of courts at Maitland Park.
We wish the more than 230 teams taking part in this year's competition good luck and great fun for the year ahead.
