The name Finding Yellow represents an unwavering commitment to discover better resources, stronger community networks, and improved facilities for clients. It is also a reflection of clients' individual journeys towards improved confidence, independence, goal success, and fulfilment.
A recent example of this vision in action is the journey of Stephen, Shannon and Tim who transitioned into a beautiful fully renovated home in late December 2018 in the Cessnock area as part of a low-care Supported Independent Living model.
Having developed a friendship over a number of years, they had always wanted to live together as mates and have flourished since the move and are enjoying being able to have a place to call their own, experiencing all the joys of running a house together and celebrating their independence.
"Finding Yellow supported to help build confidence, capacity and independence," Finding Yellow CEO Andrew Warren said. "Our team worked closely with Tim in his home to increase his capacity with daily living skills whilst Stephen and Shannon worked on their daily living skills over a number of years in preparation for the big transition."
The house has a new kitchen, bathroom, wardrobes, outdoor area, carpets, blinds, painting, lighting, appliances, and laundry and is fully accessible.
"It is fully maintained by the gentleman and our team support with attendance daily to prompt and encourage participation," Mr Warren said. "All families have been extremely supportive and have played a key role in the transition to new accommodation being a success through their support and encouragement."
To celebrate this significant milestone, Stephen, Shannon and Tim celebrated with a recent house warming party in which all of their closest family and friends enjoyed delicious food hampers kindly donated by the team at Westpac Cessnock, rocking out to the tunes of Blue Water Cowboys.
"We empower people to change their lives by working collaboratively with people who live with disability and their families and the community," Mr Warren said. "We respect, embrace and empower individuality and diversity and consistently provide high quality services delivered by a professional team and with a high degree integrity."
