Kurri Kurri under-15 netballers starred at the long weekend's state senior netball titles, finishing runners-up in division four after missing out on the title by just a fraction of a percentage.
It could not have been much closer with Kurri Kurri and champions West Wyalong both having one win each in the preliminary rounds and finishing with records of 14 wins, one draw and three losses from their 18 games over the weekend.
In the end West Wyalong prevailed on points for and against finishing with 363 for and 233 against to Kurri's 354 and 229.
Kurri Kurri under-17s got their division four campaign off to a great start defeating Cessnock 16-15 in their first encounter.
However, Cessnock got stronger as the competition continued and defeated Kurri 19-10 in their second match to go on to finish sixth with a record of eight wins and a draw from their 18 matches.
Kurri Kurri won just one more game but drew three games.
In the open ranks, Kurri Kurri struggled in the topflight Opens Championship failing to win a game.
In Opens Division 2 Maitand were runners up and Cessnock finished 17th of 24 with a record of seven wins, two draws and 12 losses.
Competing in the tough division two Cessnock's under-15s finished 15th with five wins from their 18 games. Maitland finised 11th with eight wins.
Kurri Kurri's Jess Stephens said the 17s and opens team both cheered from the sidelines as the under-15s secured second in their must win final game. "The last game was a must win to finish in the top two and this was even harder with the loss of their GS the game before through injury," she said.
