Events will be held between July 1 and 17 to celebrate and support local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and culture.
The 2019 theme for NAIDOC Week is 'Voice, Treaty, Truth. Let's work together for a shared future - a call to action acknowledging that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have always wanted an enhanced role in decision-making in Australia's democracy'.
Cessnock mayor Bob Pynsent encouraged residents to take part in the festivities. "Getting involved in NAIDOC week is a great way to connect with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture," he said.
