The much-awaited Spring Awakening is only two months away so it's time to hone those lantern making skills.
The 2019 event is highly-anticipated after terrible weather forced organisers to make the heartbreaking decision to call off last year's festivities.
But the team behind the much-loved event is planning to make up for last year's cancellation by making this year bigger, bolder and brighter than ever.
The celebration of the arrival of spring will be held on September 6 from 6-9pm at the Cessnock TAFE grounds.
Festival-goers can warm themselves among flaming sculptures and be intrigued by interactive installations. There'll be roving performers, entertainment, creative activities for kids and surprises for the whole family. Pack a picnic or select a treat from a gourmet food truck and soak up the atmosphere.
An integral part of the event is the ever-growing lantern parade. The parade acts as the official start of festivities, departing from Cessnock Performing Arts Centre and continuing in a dazzling procession via Vincent Street to the TAFE.
This school holidays is the perfect time to dig out the arts and craft box and create a lantern for the parade. The team at CPAC has lantern kits just waiting to be turned into wondrous creations. The $5 kits include a lantern and an LED candle to illuminate them come parade time. All they need is a bit of decoration to bring them to life.
Cessnock and Kurri libraries will host free lantern making workshops, with dates and times to be announced.
