Assistance valued at more than $30.5 million was provided to farmers and rural communities in the past financial year, according to farm-focused charity Rural Aid.

Cessnock counsellor and Rural Aid representative Gary Bentley said a large proportion of the aid found its way to the Hunter Valley.
"Help in cash and kind went to people in need across NSW, Queensland, Victoria and South Australia,'' Mr Bentley said.
"In the Hunter we've seen a great many hay deliveries, financial assistance, on-farm and community work and counselling provided in what's been a very busy year."
Rural Aid CEO Charles Alder said the message to all tiers of government was that demand for support remained high.
"On average we are receiving 400 new farmers registrations a month and we now have more than 8000 on our database," he said. "Our ability to source hay for farmers to feed livestock is also getting more difficult with the price of hay increasing because of the longevity of the drought."
