A stalwart of education in Cessnock has been recognised for her dedication and commitment to her students and community.

Cessnock West Public School teacher Ann Barry received a Director's Excellence Award in the last week for term two.

The award honoured Mrs Barry's overall dedication to the school, in particular her work with the Leap into Learning program, which assists future students with transition into kindergarten.

Mrs Barry has taught at Cessnock West Public School for 50 years, educating and caring for many generations of local families, and inspiring all who cross paths with her.

"It has been a privilege to be a teacher at Cessnock West and to have been a small part of so many lives," Mrs Barry said.

"The memories of all the amazing, talented children, parents, friends and colleagues who have enriched my life in so many ways will stay with me forever.

"I continue to follow with interest the progress and achievements of former students as I continue in this amazing career."
