The young Cessnock rider believes he has learned a lot in his first couple of seasons in the senior ranks and will put that knowledge to the test in the penultimate round of the Club Championship and the 2019 Winter Series this Saturday, September 14.

Hawes holds second place behind Kurri Kurri's Mason Campton in the senior solo standings going into round four of the series and is confident that his team has sorted the electrical problems that hampered him in the previous round.

"Things start to heat up now not only with the end of the series, but with the NSW Under 21 Speedway Championship just weeks away," Hawes said.

"I finished third in the Championship last year and I am determined to go even better this year, especially when Kurri is hosting the event."

Cowra rider Matthew Gilmore makes his return to Kurri. Gilmore represented Australia in the 2019 FIM Team Speedway Under 21 World Championship Final in Great Britain.

Another rider making a return from overseas is Kane Lawrence. The Newcastle youngster spent time in the United Kingdom over the last two months sourcing experience on the international scene.

As a result, he missed the previous two rounds and is keen to add to his points tally.

The annual Todd Wiltshire Trophy for junior 125 solos will be another feature of the program in conjunction with the penultimate rounds of the Club Championship and the $5 000 Speedway Experience Winter Series.

Racing is scheduled to get underway at 10am with the junior 125cc speedway solos.
