Head to the library at 6.30pm to see Sydney Symphony Orchestra and conductor Vladimir Ashkenazy's performance of two Elgar masterpieces and Vaughan Williams's magical Tallis Fantasia.

Elgar's powerful and poetic Cello Concerto was his favourite and most candid creation, and is a tour de force for sensational young soloist Andreas Brantelid.

Library services coordinator, Rose-marie Walters is encouraging locals to come along to this fabulous event.

"This is another wonderful example of how our libraries continue to be cultural hubs for our community," Ms Walters said.

"The live-streaming of performances like this into libraries beyond metropolitan areas is just fantastic and this event is great opportunity for our community to experience the Sydney Symphony Orchestra right here at Cessnock Library."

The event will start at 6.30pm; and entry is free with refreshments provided, but bookings are essential.
