Accept the science or not, the end of the coal industry is in sight.
Judging by behaviour on Facebook some people are scared, but it isn't the end of the world.
Australia is rich in renewable energy potential. There are more jobs in renewables than in coal mining and fossil-fuelled generation combined.
Energy from new-build renewables is typically cheaper than that from existing coal-fired plants.
Given effective leadership, we should end up with one of the most cost-effective electricity networks on the planet.
We have universities producing world-class solar energy research. Australian companies have developed electric aircraft engines, vehicles and drive trains, among other things.
Our problem should be low unemployment, not high underemployment.
Governments at all levels must coordinate and facilitate. The private sector can't do it alone. We need more from the Right than denial and more from the Left than vague motherhood statements about a "just transition".
The future will be what we make it.
