The Goannas may have lost the game but Cessnock reminded the Newcastle RL that when it comes to footy fans there is no equal to the Coalfields supporters at the grand final on Sunday.
Goannas fans outnumbered Westerns Suburbs supporters three to one, but unfortunately it wasn't to be the teams day on the field.
The powerful Wests ran out 36-0 winners against a game Cessnock, which ran out of momentum and players on the big day with the bench down to one fresh player with key men Daniel Metcalf, Steve Waetford and Paul Carter sidelined with injury.
As he had done so often before Brendan Hlad led the way for Cessnock to be the Goannas best in his last game. Young fullback Harry O'Brien also put in a game performance, battling right to the end against the odds.
