With more than 125,000 members around the world, Probus provides an exciting opportunity for retirees to meet and be part of a social club in their local community.

"There is a thriving single-gender mens Probus club in Cessnock and many Probus clubs across the Hunter Region, however there is great potential to reach out to benefit even more local retirees with the exciting prospect of establishing a new Combined Club for men and women in Cessnock itself," Probus South Pacific membership development officer Joshua Stojanovic said.

"This will be the first new Probus club formed in this area of the Hunter Valley for over 20 years."

Kurri Kurri has a mixed Probus club, while the Cessnock ladies' club closed in 2012.

Probus is a community service activity of Rotary clubs. The Rotary Club of Cessnock has been asked to sponsor the Cessnock Combined Probus Club.

"Hunter Region Probus volunteers Ray Davies and Grahame Moy OAM are keen to get this new club up and running in Cessnock, and support the new group of retirees in their initial journey and to get started enjoying the unique brand of fun, friendship and fellowship that Probus has to offer," Mr Stojanovic said.

"If you join, you will hear interesting guest speakers, attend monthly meetings and take part in a wide range of pursuits. You will have opportunities to take local trips and to travel around the world.

The meeting will be held at Cessnock Leagues Club on Tuesday, October 22 from 10am to noon.
