Australian-based charity the Uplift Project has sent more than one million bras to women in disadvantaged countries since 2005.
The Hunter River Olaves are collecting bras for Uplift Project this month, with numerous drop-off points around the region.
Olaves (a Girl Guides division for women aged 18 to 30) across NSW and ACT have been supporting the project for the many years.
The Coastal Valleys region (which includes the Hunter River Olaves) took out the 'Bra Cup' in 2018 after collecting 2176 bras and $150 cash.
Bras of all shapes and sizes, plus swimwear, nursing pads, mastectomy bras and prostheses, are needed, and new underpants and fabric nappies are also accepted.
Drop-off points include:
- Cessnock PCYC
- Cessnock Library
- Clayton Barr's office
- Badgeman (bras and cash donations)
- Cessnock Girl Guide Hall (bras and cash donations, Tuesday afternoons during school term)
- Betta Electrical Kurri Kurri
- Kurri Kurri Library
- Kirkwoods Institute of Karate
