Originally a book written by Ken Kesey in 1962, it was adapted for the stage by Dale Wasserman the following year, with the Milos Forman-directed film version released in 1975 (starring Jack Nicholson).
The story has a primary focus on Randle P. McMurphy who has been charged with battery and gambling. Instead of serving a sentence on a prison work farm, he fakes insanity and is sent to a psychiatric hospital.
McMurphy and the head nurse, Nurse Ratched, clash and have an ongoing power struggle.
The institutionalised inmates start to respond to McMurphy's antics, regain their confidence and begin to break free from the shackles of Nurse Ratched's controlling ways, which leads to a shocking and tragic (yet brilliant) ending.
Directed by Cath Patterson, the Valley Artists cast features Brian Dillon as McMurphy, Annette Rowlison at Nurse Ratched, Alan Glover as Chief Bromden, with another 14 colourful characters in what's sure to be a memorable show.
Performances will be held on November 1, 2, 6, 7, 8 and 9 at 7.30pm, and there will also be a matinee on Sunday, November 3 at 3pm.
