RFBI Village communities across NSW and ACT are opening their doors and gardens across September and October, making it one of the state's largest garden parties.

The open days are designed to give the local community the chance to find out more about aged care facilities, while enjoying some fun activities with the residents and staff.

The Kurri Kurri village's open day will be held on Thursday, and Cessnock's will take place on Saturday, with market stalls, a barbecue lunch and much more.

"Our open days are always an enjoyable day with visitors choosing to go on guided tours or having a cuppa and chat with myself and other team members," RFBI Kurri Kurri Masonic Village general manager Pam Badior said.

The village teams will also be holding an information session and conducting guided tours, while RFBI's residential care, retirement living and Care at Home teams will also be available.

"It gives people the chance to see what aged care is really like," RFBI Cessnock Masonic Village general manager Trudy Bailey said.

"Some of our residents are still quite independent."

The Cessnock open day will also celebrate the wonderful gardening skills of their residents with the announcement of the winner of its Spring Garden Festival. The competition was judged by a team member from Bunnings earlier this week, with a trophy and vouchers up for grabs for the winner.

The Kurri Kurri open day will run from 10am to 4pm Thursday, and Cessnock's will be held from 9am to noon on Saturday.

RFBI has also recently acquired Benhome at Maitland, and its open day will be held on Wednesday, October 23 from 10am to 2pm.

RFBI has 20 retirement villages, 22 residential villages and covers six regions with Care at Home services across NSW and ACT; providing care for more than 2200 people.

It was named National Provider of the Year at the Aged and Community Services Australia (ACSA) National Summit in Melbourne last week.
