Freeman of the City of Cessnock, Neville Bothwell, passed away last Wednesday, aged 94.

Mr Bothwell was Cessnock's Citizen of the Year in 1998 and was named a Freeman of the City in 2006, in recognition of a lifetime of service to the community through organisations including the Samaritans, Freemasons, Lions, Marthaville, the Anglican church and many more.
A former teacher at Cessnock High School, Mr Bothwell went on to become the District Inspector of Schools.
Cessnock mayor Bob Pynsent said he was saddened to hear of Mr Bothwell's passing, saying "Neville had true community spirit and contributed enormously to our community".
Mr Bothwell is predeceased by his wife Pam, and is survived by their children Brian and Anne, and grandchildren Tim and Amanda.
His funeral will be held at St John's Anglican Church, Cessnock on Wednesday, October 16 at 11.30am.
