Wine Country under-16 Fletcher Sharpe has defied wet conditions and the Raymond Terrace attack to amass an amazing 181 on the first day of the Maitland 2019-20 cricket season.

Sharpe scored a century in boundaries with 23 fours and three sixes in his innings which dominated his side's total of 6/303 from 50 overs.
The innings also equalled the previous best in recent records by Blake Walmsley who made 181 for Thornton in 2008-09.
Other big innings from juniors over past decade include 174 by Pat Magann for Easts in 2013/14, 165 not out by Isaac Barry for City United in 2017/18 and 156 by Jonathan Maloney for Wests in 2012/13.
Sharpe and his Wine Country teammates Samuel Peacock and Hudson Smith were part of the Hunter Valley under-16s team.at the CNZ Challenge in Tamworth where Sharpe got three scores in the 30s.
He backed up on Saturday in first grade for Peden's Hotel in the Cessnock competition but was out for four.
There were limited opportunities for play across the Maitland senior competition and under-16 division 1 in the junior ranks.
In first grade, Raymond Terrace managed 1/34 against Thornton before play was halted with just 15 overs bowled at King Park 1.
At Coronation Oval, Kurri Weston were 3/59 off 23.3 overs when rain halted their game against Western Suburbs.
Lachlan Vasella made a strong start to his first grade opening career unbeaten on 24 with Liam Neild also not out on 11.
Riley Harrison had a great start taking all three wickets for Wests.
No play was possible in the games between City United and Northern Suburbs at Robins Oval and Tenambit Morpeth and Eastern Suburbs at Tenambit Oval.
In the only other game to proceed SMR made 4/96 against Paterson in A-grade before rain halted play and the game was declared a draw.
