That's the findings of economic impact modelling by Cessnock City Council's Economic Development team.
If local residents could consciously invest their Christmas spend towards local businesses, the combined impact of this spend could be exponential.
Choosing to shop local is always a great investment into your community. Buying local this Christmas has a direct impact on the viability of our region's economy as well as jobs.
Council's acting economic development manager Rhiannon Stevens promotes keeping dollars local and grow pride in our business community.
"We're proud of our local businesses and what they have to offer. We want to encourage local residents to get out and about consider supporting a small business this holiday season," Ms Stevens said.
"We really need to start hammering home the message that a strong local economy with good employment prospects now and into the future does not happen in isolation or without the support of the businesses and residents within it."

Advance Cessnock City represents a strategic partnership between Cessnock City Council and all local chambers of commerce and business networks across the region.
