Bishop Donald was appointed as Rector of the former Parish of Mount Vincent in 1989, his first appointment in charge of a parish.
Since that time, his career has taken him across several dioceses in NSW and Victoria, including a term as Dean of Christ Church Cathedral Grafton, and most recently Archdeacon of the South West in the Diocese of Ballarat.
"Bishop Donald was installed as Bishop of Riverina in June and has travelled widely across his new diocese meeting parishioners and discovering the burning issues in communities," rector's warden of the parish Graham Smith said.
"Arising from this he has made national headlines with his opening address to the Diocesan synod last week when, in speaking of water trading in the agricultural sector, he said that water should not simply be available to the people with the deepest pockets.
"Bishop Donald retains a soft spot for the Parish of Mount Vincent and has returned on several occasions for special services.
"He and his wife Camryn are looking forward to catching up with friends and former parishioners on Sunday morning."
The service brings to a close the celebrations of 175 years of Anglican worship in the Mulbring Valley, which commenced with a similar service in November 2018.
It will commence at 10am, and will be followed by a bring and share picnic lunch in the church yard.
Former parishioners, friends of the Kirks and local residents are most welcome to join in the celebrations.
SAVE THE DATE FOR CAROLS NIGHT
Christ Church Mount Vincent will a Christmas Carols night on Sunday, December 1.
Carols organiser Barbara McPhee said the non-denominational event aims to bring neighbours, friends and residents of the area together to celebrate the community.
"We would like to attract local people who may have some connection to the Mulbring Valley, now or in the past," Ms McPhee said.
"These include descendants of the pioneering families.
"We also welcome those who may be new to the area and would like to get to know their neighbours."
Everyone is encouraged to bring a plate of food, and also a small unwrapped gift for a child or adult, or a non-perishable food item for the Cessnock Samaritans Christmas Appeal.
Gates will open at 6.30pm for a 7pm start, with supper and refreshments at 8.15pm.
