The business started in 1988 as Ray White Cessnock with Joanne and her father Ross opening a new office in the town. The business changed to Dowling Real Estate Cessnock, a well-known local brand, in 2005.
Many local people have been employed at the business over the years, some successfully going on to run their own businesses in real estate and sales-related industries.
Originally from Toronto, Joanne has called Cessnock home since opening the office and has raised two children - Sarah and Luke - here, with her daughter Sarah working with her for the past four years.
"It has been a roller coaster ride, but the time has come to sit back and relax. The business was a great success and I now look forward to retiring to my beloved Harrington," Joanne said.
Four staff members have now joined Sternbecks Real Estate in the property management division.
"James Harvey and the staff at Sternbecks have been very welcoming and the staff are enjoying their new roles, including Rebecca Bender who worked for Dowling Cessnock for around 17 years," Joanne said.
"I will miss the hectic pace, the friends I have made and the people I have worked with, the local businesses and tradies that we have supported over the years.
"Thanks for the ride. it has been amazing."
