The association had a great response to its collection on Friday afternoon, and is holding another collection to help firefighters prepare for Tuesday's severe fire weather.

Donations of soft drink, sparking water, soda water, hand washing liquid, paper towel, nut trail mix, ham and cheese, bread and watermelons can be dropped off at the Cessnock Civic Indoor Sports Centre on Motun View Road from 3.30pm to 7.30pm.

"The donations we receive will once again be going out to the amazing people fighting the fires in the Wollombi area," association spokesperson Ashley Craft said.

"We would like to congratulate our fabulous community for coming together to make this happen. Firefighters - retained or volunteers - are doing an amazing job and need our support."

A total fire ban has been declared for the Greater Hunter on Tuesday, with a top of 42 degrees forecast for Cessnock.

The Little L Complex fire near Wollombi - which reached emergency level on Friday - continues to burn at advice level, and is now more than 65,000 hectares in size. It has merged with the Gospers Mountain fire in the Wollemi National Park (300,000 hectares) and the Paddock Run blaze near Putty (17,000 hectares).

People in Paynes Crossing, Wollombi and Laguna are urged to monitor conditions.

The Crumps Road fire in Corrabare State Forest has reached 5000 hectares and is being controlled. Residents of Narone Creek, Congewai and Sweetmans Creek are advised to monitor conditions, as the fire expected to spread to the east and north on Tuesday after a southerly change.

The Owendale fire in the Pokolbin State Forest, near Broke has burned through 1000 hectares and is at advice level.
