Tributes have flowed on social media for Lathan, 19, who died on December 8.
Lathan, who also played cricket for Kurri-Weston and was a former Kurri Kurri High School captain, was the Bears' under-20s player of the year in 2019 and featured twice in first grade. He played 10 top-grade games for the NNSW NPL soccer club the previous year and was the Alan Cooper Youth Achievement award recipient at Weston's presentation.
"Weston Workers Bears Football Club and the entire Northern Football family extend our deepest and most sincere condolences to the Lathan family for the loss of their son and brother Angus," Weston said in a statement.
"So many have mourned and celebrated a young man with an infectious personality and contagious smile.
"A talented young footballer, Angus has been at Weston from the age of 13. A leader, a captain, a friend and very popular with young and old. He embodies the spirit and personality all football clubs love and ours is built on.
"Angus also brought his family to the club who themselves have become part of the Weston fabric and dear friends. Thank you Mark and Helen for sharing your beautiful boy with us. We are better people for knowing Angus and in turn his wonderful family. Rest in peace Gus - We will forever miss, remember and love you."
In lieu of flowers, donations can be left at the service for Young Adult Mental Health in Lathan's memory.
