Cessnock City Council is calling for feedback on its draft 2020-25 Waste and Resource Recovery Strategy, which is now on public exhibition.
Council's vision for the strategy is to provide a sustainable and cost-effective waste service to the Cessnock community, while prioritising waste minimisation and complying with environmental, safety and legislative obligations.
The draft strategy has been developed following community feedback, with almost 1000 surveys completed, and residents will have the chance to provide more feedback while the document is on public exhibition.
Council's waste team will host drop-in sessions at:
- Cessnock Library on Thursday, March 19 from 4pm to 6pm
- The Greta Rotunda on Tuesday, March 24 from 3pm to (in conjunction with a compost giveaway)
- Poppet Head Park, Kitchener on Thursday, March 26 from 3pm to 5pm (in conjunction with a compost giveaway)
- Kurri Kurri Library on Wednesday, April 1 from 9am to 11am
Cessnock mayor Bob Pynsent said managing waste is one of our greatest challenges, not only locally but on a global scale.
"We can all do our bit to divert waste from landfill and improve resource recovery and this draft strategy is a step in the right direction for our community," he said.
"If you have any questions, I encourage you to come along to one of the drop-in sessions and chat to the team."
The draft strategy can be viewed on council's website, at council's customer service centre and Cessnock and Kurri Kurri Libraries until Wednesday, April 8.
