The Cessnock Combined Probus Club is up and running, with its first annual general meeting to be held on Tuesday, March 24.
The mixed-gender club formed in October, and is the first new Probus club in the Hunter Valley for more than 20 years.
In the short time since the club formed, members have enjoyed two outings (the most recent to Newcastle for the stage show Senior Moments), and have three more outings planned - a tour of Sacred Spaces at the Singleton convent; a visit to see Mirusia at Cessnock Performing Arts Centre and a visit to Singleton to see the Celtic Fiddle Band.
The club also has two regular activities - coffee and chat and a walking group - with plans for more activities to start soon.
Club president Daphne Harris says Probus makes retirement more fulfilling.
"With a new circle of friends and fun club activities our horizons are truly broadened," Ms Harris said.
"Being a member brings new experiences and memories with like minded people in our local area.
"This month as we conduct our first AGM and we reflect on our first five months, we have a growing membership, our activities are growing and more outings are planned."
The annual general meeting will be held at Cessnock Leagues Club at 10am.
The club meets at the same time and venue on the fourth Tuesday of the month.
New members are welcome. For more information, email cessnockcombinedprobusclub@gmail.com or call secretary Pat Frame on 0417 721 997.
