Entertainment venues are among the facilities that had to close by noon on Monday, along with pubs, clubs, dine-in restaurants, churches, casinos, cinemas, gyms and indoor sports centres.
Cessnock City Council's curator of performing and creative arts, Vicki Sienczuk said at this stage, all shows up until July have been postponed.
"Patrons that have tickets to performances that have been postponed are being contacted with the new dates," she said.
"We will continue to listen to Federal and State Government advice and respond to the changing situation.
"While our doors will be shut you'll still be able to reach us over the phone and online.
"Our box office will remain open for shows planned for later in the year."
The ongoing and developing nature of the COVID-19 situation had already affected a number of upcoming performances at the performing arts centre, with several shows postponed following last week's ban on non-essential indoor gatherings of 100 people or more.
Tim Costello's author talk, which was part of the Newcastle Writers Festival, has been cancelled, while several other shows at CPAC have been postponed.
Comedian Ross Noble, who was to perform in Cessnock last Friday, has rescheduled his show until October 8.
Psychic medium Mitchell Coombes has moved his show from April 17 to August 1.
Other shows that have been postponed include The Gruffalo's Child, Dr Seuss's The Cat in the Hat, The Australian Bee Gees Show, the Gospel According to Paul, the Melbourne International Comedy Festival Roadshow, Celtic Illusion, the World of Musicals and Disney's Alice in Wonderland Jr.
The new dates will announced via the venue's Facebook page, free monthly e-newsletter and website.
