Who Do You Think You Are?
7.30pm Tuesday, SBS
In Series 11 of Who Do You Think You Are? more prominent Australians explore their ancestry and unravel the history mysteries of their families.
The eight-part season features former federal minister Julie Bishop, TV stars Bert Newton and Lisa Wilkinson, actors Kat Stewart and Cameron Daddo, comedian Denise Scott, Olympian Lisa Curry and country singer Troy Cassar-Daley.
One of the group traces lost German roots, one learns about heroic wartime adventures and another gets insights into their indigenous genealogy.
SBS Head of Commercial and Production Chris Irvine said the enduring appeal of the show was that it revealed "a bigger picture of Australia's diverse national identity".
"This season spans centuries of history and crosses continents to unearth extraordinary genealogical revelations for some of the country's most beloved Australians," he said. "These stories demonstrate how Australians have come to be the people we are today."
In Tuesday's first episode, journalist and TV presenter Lisa Wilkinson (of The Project) learns the real identity of her maternal ancestors and the truth her mother always longed for.
In the second episode (airing May 26), Logie legend and veteran entertainer Bert Newton discovers the father he never knew was a true patriot who devoted his life to his country.
"I feel even closer to my dad now because I know so much more about him," Newton said.
"I realise now how lucky I am to have the family I have. Family is the one thing I'm totally sure of."
In the episode airing on June 30 former foreign minister Julie Bishop is on a mission to discover the origins of her globetrotting, adventurous spirit.
The remaining programs feature Daddo (June 2), Curry (June 9), Scott (June 16), Stewart (June 23) and Cassar-Daley (July 7).
Julia Zemiro's Home Delivery
8pm Wednesday, ABC
In Series 8 of her interview show, comedian Julia Zemiro takes an intimate drive down memory lane - in classic cars - with a new batch of notables, who steer us around their old stomping grounds and recount the people, places and events that shaped them.
Journeying from Wollongong to Devonport, from Bowral to the Gold Coast and Balmain to suburban Melbourne, this season's eight guests are colourful boffin Karl Kruszelnicki, maverick Senator Jacqui Lambie, comedians Celeste Barber and Craig Reucassel, film director Gillian Armstrong, actor Yael Stone, billionaire software entrepreneur Scott Farquhar and singer Casey Donovan.
In Wednesday's first episode Dr Karl takes Julia on a tour of the Wollongong family home he has not visited for 50 years.
"I was totally surprised when the new owner who had chased up previous owners said 'This house, which is over a century old, has always brought good luck to its inhabitants. You've done well and so have my four children'," Dr Karl said.
The visit brings back memories of a lonely childhood and stirs regrets at not paying attention to the life lessons of his Holocaust-survivor parents.
In episode three (airing June 3), Senator Jacqui Lambie returns to where it all began - a housing commission home she shared with her mother and brother in the suburbs of Devonport - and recalls her rebellious teenage years and the random assault that changed the course of her life.
She reveals the mental torment that saw her try to take her own life, the chronic back pain that ended her military career and the bitter battle with the Department of Veterans Affairs for medical support that inspired her unlikely entry into politics. She also introduces father Tom, whose Scottish ancestry became another hurdle to overcome.
The remaining programs feature Barber (May 27), Reucassel (June 10), Stone (June 17), Armstrong (June 24), Farquhar (July 1) and Donovan (July 8).
