Cessnock City Council will be asked to consider extending residents' tip passes until the end of October at Wednesday night's meeting.
Independent councillor Ian Olsen will table a notice of motion asking that the expiry date on tip passes be extended until the end of October, due to the closure of the Cessnock Waste Management Centre during the COVID-19 lockdown.
The waste centre was closed to the public from April 3 until May 1, after council received advice from a NSW Police officer that going to the tip was "not an acceptable reason to leave your house".
Commercial businesses and residents who don't receive kerbside service were permitted to use the tip during that time.
"Residents were unable to utilise the use of the vouchers that are paid for in the waste component of their rates notices during the COVID-19 crisis and the closing of the waste centre," Cr Olsen said in his notice of motion.
"With this in mind it would be of benefit to allow the residents a three-month grace to remove the waste from their homes at no extra cost to them."
The meeting is closed to the public due to COVID-19 restrictions, but will be broadcast via council's Facebook page from 6.30pm Wednesday.
