Residents of Aberdare and Mulbring are encouraged to undertake a short survey and share their ideas about what symbol represents their suburb.
The results of the survey will help Cessnock City Council develop a logo that will appear on welcome signs to these suburbs.
Council installed a number of new suburb entry signs across the Cessnock local government area last year, and this project has now expanded to include Aberdare and Mulbring.
Cessnock mayor Bob Pynsent said more signage makes it easier for visitors enjoying everything the region has to offer.
"The signage will not only help visitors find their way when exploring the region but also highlight the unique character of each suburb that makes up the Cessnock LGA," he said.
"Each suburb has their own local history and background that has influenced their growth and development."
The survey has been put together with the assistance of council's local studies librarian, Kimberly O'Sullivan, who has shared her local history insights to provide options for the logos.
Consultation closes on October 4 at the Have Your Say section on council's website.
