The event has been created by two emerging artists from Branxton - Kim Lundy and Suellyn Connolly - who were inspired by popularity of art fairs abroad and in Australia's larger cities.
The duo decided they wanted to give artists and makers from the Hunter region a unique forum to showcase and sell their work direct to the public, commission-free.
As Suellyn puts it: "The arts scene in Newcastle and the Hunter is booming!".
"I feel like there's never been a better time for this type of event, providing access for the public directly to fine arts, with the ability to meet these talented artists and makers in person and take home a truly special piece," she said.
"In the current trying times, when people cannot travel very far, art provides the perfect escape."
The organisers are also encouraging artists and makers to paint and create at their stall where possible to provide a unique glimpse into their processes, which would usually only be seen in-studio.
A COVID-safe event, the art fair will be open 10am-6pm Saturday and Sunday, and 10am-3pm Monday at Pokolbin Community Hall (128 McDonalds Road), with food and refreshments on-site and live music all weekend.
Entry is free. For more information (including artist inquiries), visit huntervalleyartfair.com.au, find the event on Facebook and Instagram, or email huntervalleyartfair@gmail.com.
