Probus South Pacific has designated October 1 - which is the United Nations' International Day for Older Persons - as the inaugural Probus Day, with the theme Staying Connected and Active, the key to a happy retirement.
Cessnock Men's Probus Club was formed in 1986 and has continued to provide fellowship and friendship to scores of retirees over this time.

As well as the monthly meetings, club members and guests hold regular events including extended coach trips, day trips and social outings.
Club president Garry Hamilton said Probus is the ideal way for retirees to keep in touch and at the same time enjoy old and make new friendships.
The Cessnock Men's Probus Club meets on the third Wednesday of the month at East Cessnock Bowling Club starting at 10am with a guest speaker. Call 4990 1028 for more information.
There are also mixed Probus clubs at Cessnock (which is set to resume meetings in November) and Kurri Kurri.
Probus South Pacific CEO Silvana Martignago said many members have remained connected during the pandemic by phone or technology.
"We are acutely aware that social contact is essential in today's world, now more than ever," she said.
"It is widely accepted that older persons that are members of social groups are less likely to develop mental health issues.
"Probus provides essential friendship based social connections for older Australians."
