On Monday it was wonderful to attend Cessnock City Library and donate a book council received from the Royal Australian Navy. The ABC of Royal Australian Navy Corvettes features information about the 56 Bathurst Class Corvettes. This includes wonderful images of the HMAS Cessnock which served in World War II taking to the seas in the Indo-Pacific, the Atlantic and Mediterranean. The naming of the Australian Navy ships after regional towns across Australia was to establish stronger community connections between Navy people and the communities from which they come.

POOL SEASON KICKS OFF
The 2020/21 pool season kicked off on Saturday with Cessnock and Branxton Pools now open for everyone to enjoy. Due to COVID-19 there are a number of restrictions Council has had to introduce to ensure compliance with the Public Health Order. Some of the restrictions include introducing a maximum capacity for each facility, social distancing unless from the same household and using hand sanitiser. As a community we all need to ensure we are respecting the restrictions in place and behaving in a responsible way. While the spread of COVID-19 in NSW is being managed, every resident and business must continue to do their bit and social distance. To view and understand the current restrictions in place, visit NSW Government's Health website.
VOLUNTEER AWARDS
The 2020 Volunteer of the Year Awards are on this Friday. It is important to recognise the valuable work of those volunteering in our communities. Volunteers make a huge contribution to community life and on behalf of the community of Cessnock- thank you.
NEW DEPUTY MAYOR
Congratulations to Councillor Darrin Gray, who was elected to the position of Deputy Mayor. Cr Gray will replace Councillor Melanie Dagg, who held the position for the last two years. Well done to Cr Dagg who has served our community proudly.
WORK PROGRESSES AT PARKS
Residents will have noticed substantial works are underway at Bluey Frame Park in Weston. The upgrade to the park involves the installation of new play equipment, fencing and landscaping. It is set to be completed next month. Works are also progressing well at Bridges Hill Park. Works are underway to connect the toilet facilities. This community space is an absolutely fantastic community asset and council is certainly looking forward to completing the project. For more information, visit council's website.
