Just a day after it was announced that the debate would take place virtually thanks to Mr Trump's COVID-19 diagnosis, organisers have now announced it simply won't be going ahead.
They made the decision as Mr Trump prepares to get back to his official duties on Saturday (his time), despite having looked worse for wear at the start of the week.
While testing rates have gone up lately among the President's inner circle in the West Wing - after months of playing down the virus' threat mind you, but better late than never - back home they appear to be dropping.
Health officials in the Hunter are pleading with residents to keep getting tested, even if you're only showing mild symptoms.
And with mystery cases popping up in Sydney this week during the school holidays, authorities are on high alert.
Hunter New England health controller Dr David Durrheim said as the holidays come to an end, people experiencing any symptoms should get tested before returning to work or school.
"We've seen quite a large fall in testing in the Hunter," Dr Durrheim said on Friday.
"People are enjoying the holidays but we do know the virus continues to lurk and we have detected some mystery cases again in Western Sydney. I think any time we get an unknown source COVID case in the community that suggests that the virus is circulating and the community remains at risk."
Victoria has entered its third day in a row with no coronavirus deaths and just 14 new cases, but the state certainly isn't out of the woods yet.
Data released today showed the state's latest 14-day rolling case average across Melbourne as 9.5 and 0.4 in regional Victoria.
Melbourne needs a fortnight average of five daily cases and no more than five mystery cases during the same period, to trigger the next step out of lockdown.
