The Cessnock High year 12 student also boasts nine-time Golden Guitar winner Lyn Bowtell as her vocal coach.

For her second single Bouquet, released last Friday, Woodhouse teamed up with Newcastle's Troy Kemp for a more commercial country sound.

"I struggle to write the fun upbeat songs," Woodhouse said. "A lot of the songs that I write are not very happy or upbeat, so I thought it would be great to write with Troy because by writing with him I'd learn new ways and techniques to write songs and potentially pick up ways to write a song and change the feel to make it how I want."

Bowtell provided backing vocals for Bouquet and stars in the music video as the organiser of a speed dating session. Woodhouse said Bowtell has become an invaluable mentor on all facets of the music industry.

"If I need any advice on something, whether or not to do this or that, I go to her and ask, 'What's your recommendation'," she says. "She just talks me through advice on my career as a whole."

GUY Sebastian is taking a long view approach to touring in the era of COVID-19 by announcing a national tour beginning in Newcastle in November 2021.

The T.R.U.T.H. Tour will kick-off at the Newcastle Entertainment Centre on November 4 before taking in another 11 dates around Australia.

CESSNOCK country singer-songwriter Travis Collins was the sole Hunter musician nominated for the 2020 ARIA Awards on Tuesday.

The six-time Golden Guitar winner was nominated for Best Country Album for his eighth record Wreck Me, which also became his first ARIA top-10 release in August.

Collins faces stiff competition from Fanny Lumsden (Fallow), Casey Barnes (Town of A Million Dreams), Jasmine Rae (Lion Side) and The McClymonts (Mayhem To Madness).

ONCE upon a time teenagers were drinking passion pop or goon. But according to the latest single from 17-year-old Newcastle indie-folk singer Bree Rusev they have more refined tastes in 2020.

On Friday the Newcastle Grammar year 11 student will release her second single Drift, following on from Coastline which announced the emerging talent back in June.

Just like Coastline, Drift showcases Rusev's sweet and ethereal vocals reminiscent of Julia Stone as she sings, "We drink warm champagne on the days we wanna fly away."

Rusev said the song promotes positive mental health and being mindful of the present.
