The pistol shooter and the darts player have been inducted into the City of Cessnock Hall of Fame.

Established in 2006, the Hall of Fame recognises high-achieving individuals and families from the region who have attained prominence in their chosen field - including sport, arts, business, public service, science and meritorious families.

Repacholi, 38, is a four-time Olympian and has qualified for a fifth appearance at the COVID-delayed Tokyo Olympics.

He has also represented Australia at four Commonwealth Games, winning six medals including three gold, setting a games record in the 50-metre pistol at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games in 2018.

Born in Melbourne, he moved to Cessnock in 2009 and is an active member of Cessnock Pistol Club.

He was named Cessnock City Sportsperson of the Year in 2010, 2014 and 2015 for his efforts in the sport at national and international level.

Repacholi said he was surprised to find out about his nomination for the hall of fame, and was pleased to learn his plaque would be placed in front of Burgerfiend in Cooper Street.

"It was a bit of a shock to get the call saying I'd been inducted into the Cessnock Hall of Fame, which is quite cool," he said.

"Having it in front of the burger shop which has been a good sponsor of mine as well, it's very fitting."

Whitlock, 51, was born in Cessnock and lived between Cessnock and Hornsby while growing up.

Known on the world darts circuit as 'The Wizard', he has been playing professional darts since 1984 and is regarded as the best darts player to come from the Southern Hemisphere.

Highlights of his career include winning the Oceanic Masters in 2002, finishing runner-up in the 2008 BDO World Darts Championship and the 2010 PDC World Darts Championship and reaching the final of the World Grand Prix in 2017.

And earlier this month, Whitlock reached the semi-final of the World Grand Prix in England.

Whitlock, who is based in the UK, said he is very pleased to have been inducted into the Cessnock Hall of Fame.

"Recognition like this is much appreciated. I am pleased to have achieved things to make my country and people proud," he said.

Cessnock mayor Bob Pynsent said these men are both deserving members of the Hall of Fame.

"The dedication both Simon and Daniel have given to their chosen sport is just remarkable, and this is reflected in what they've achieved so far," he said.

"I hope our Hall of Fame creates a sense of pride for the community and inspires future generations to achieve the best they can."

The duo's induction brings the number of individuals and families in the hall of fame to 60, including 21 sportspeople, 10 for achievements in the arts, 10 for public service, eight for science, six for business and five meritorious families.
