It was good to welcome the Governor of New South Wales, Her Excellency the Honourable Margaret Beazley AO QC, to the Cessnock local government area on October 29. It was another wonderful opportunity to highlight our area and some of the challenges we experience, as we have done so on previous visits from Governors.

Governor Beazley's visit to Wollombi was planned after she took an interest in understanding the impacts of the last bushfire season and more broadly the drought suffered across the Cessnock LGA. Our local people were able to share their stories and Governor Beazley listened with care. Her Excellency also took part in a walking tour of the sculptures as part of the Wollombi Valley Sculpture Festival. Her Excellency plans to visit again shortly and we look forward to hosting a second tour.
REMEMBRANCE DAY
Well done to all of the local RSL sub-branches involved in commemorative services across the LGA. It was important we were able to come together as a community on Remembrance Day, and with their commitment and careful planning this was made possible.
WALK FOR DIABETES
On Saturday, the Branxton Lions Club will host 'Lions to Lap the Map', an event to raise awareness and funds for diabetes. This involves a group of us walking from the Branxton Rotunda to Miller Park and back. A fantastic way to do something meaningful, be active and enjoy fresh air as a community. It is an Australia-wide event, and if you would like to show support visit the Lions Club website.
NAIDOC WEEK
NAIDOC Week celebrations have commenced and the local Business Breakfast was a great way to start the week. It was wonderful to hear from guest speakers including Jamie Shackleton who shared their perspective and experiences. It is always important our young people have a platform to be heard. A number of other events are planned up until Sunday. Visit council's website and download the program.
PARK UPGRADED
Another fantastic community project delivered is the upgrade of Bluey Frame Park at Weston. This park is now much better equipped to cater to families and their children. Council is committed to delivering vital upgrades to recreational spaces for the community.
