O'Meley was a late withdrawal from his scheduled fight last Saturday against kick-boxing convert Lee Fook with a torn hamstring.

"He was doing sprint work and he felt it go in the very final sprint of his preparation," Fogarty said. "Always the way. He'll rest up for six to eight weeks now. The last thing we want to do is rush him back."

Upon his return O'Meley will have one more fight before he looks for a rematch with Gunnedah's Wade Ryan - the only man to beat him in his professional career so far. Their previous fight at East Cessnock Bowling Club was a no-holds-barred split points decision.

It was a fight in which O'Meley says he got his preparation wrong and went in to the fight overdone.

Fogarty did not rule out a fight with Fook at a future date, but said he would not be O'Meley's next fight.

In a disappointment for boxing fans, highly credentialled Sakio Bika could not fight on Friday's Under the Dome program as he did not have his registration blue book with him as required.

"In his absence Amber Wright stepped up to be the main event in her first professional fight after a top amateur career and she won well. She's one to watch."
